Martin Perry UNYQer Interview

Each of us has a personal life story that makes us unique, what is yours? How do you feel unique?
Definitely, what makes a person unique is their story. Everybody in life has such an individual and personal story to tell that can help so many people around them. In my case, what I think makes me unique is that I don’t have any hands and I only have one leg, yet I am able to do everything I want in life and hopefully help others along the way. For example, back in 2013 I cycled 700miles across the UK for charity. That was incredibly tough, but very rewarding.
I feel very lucky to have excelled at my sport and it has taken me all over the world meeting incredible people and experiencing amazing things. But to represent my country is such an honor that I am thankful for everyday.
Exploring new things such as trying new sports or new tastes (specially when traveling) as often as you can, I think it can really change your perspective on things.
How do you handle self-acceptance? What is your biggest inspiration in life?
I just face it with a smile. Many people struggle accepting who they are, especially when they are disabled. However, I love the fact that I have no hands and only one leg. It has given me such an amazing life, and for that I am thankful.
My motivation is to be the best athlete I can be and to inspire other people by representing my country at the Paralympic Games. Hopefully I’ll bring home a medal.
As a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo what inspires me is his work ethic and skills that are unmatched. To keep doing what he is doing at such a high level for such a long career is incredible.

What does wearing UNYQ Covers mean to you?
I have been wearing my UNYQ Cover for 4 years now. Since I saw a demonstration model at my local clinic I was intrigued immediately.
I think the variety of designs are amazing and you can always find something to suit your personality and style. They are very easy to put on and take off of the prosthetic. And I absolutely love the confidence it gives me to proudly show off my prosthetic.
